For the more energetic there are forest walks in the Ngorongoro Reserve. The most popular of these passes through coffee plantations to reach the forest where a 1 hour walk up buffalo trails leads to the top of an impressive waterfall and to a neighbouring elephant and buffalo carved cave. Many wild animals and birds inhabit the forest, buffalo are particularly unpredictable in their behaviour and as a precaution groups are assigned an armed ranger for their walk. Depending on the route taken the walk can take from 2 to 4 hours.
